(Source)rock and soil samples
Geochemical analysis and stable isotopes
Sample preparation and extraction
Sample material needs to be fine, homogeneous and clean for analysis. Isolab provides the following sample pretreatments/(sample)preparation:
- Grinding of core or cuttings
- Solvent cleaning (remove contamination of OBM)
- Extraction by Accelerated solvent extraction to obtain the extract
Source rock extracts can be analaysed further as oil samples
Composition and geochemical properties
- Rock-Eval 6 characterisation (Pyrolysis and oxidation)
- Total organic carbon (TOC) + Sulphur by LECO
- Total carbon (TC) + Sulphur by LECO
- Fluid inclusions analysis by rock crusher
Crusher gas analysis (Trapped Fluid Analysis)
In collaboration with our technical partners at Multiphase Analytics, Isolab can provide analysis of trapped gas and volatile hydrocarbons in cuttings, core, or side wall core samples:
- Hydrocarbon gas composition (methane - pentane)
- Carbon isotopes of methane – pentane
- Hydrogen isotopes of methane
- Gasoline range hydrocarbon composition (C7GC)
Stable isotopes of rock samples
The isotopes of fine grinded rock or soil samples are analysed by EA-IRMS:
- Total Carbon (TC) bulk isotopes
- Total Organic Carbon (TOC) bulk isotopes
Sample types
Various sample types can be analysed:
- Core samples
- Washed, dry cuttings
- Soil
- Cement
- Other types of stone samples
